Biographical Note

Loren Thrush (1921-2007) and Donna June Weldin Thrush (1923-2002) were married on June 9, 1942. Loren Thrush grew up and attended school in Sheridan, Wyoming, graduating high school in 1939. The couple met while he was working on the Fort Peck Dam at Glasgow, Montana. Shortly afterwards, Loren Thrush was called into the Army, attending Officer Candidate School and "island-hopping" in the South Pacific for 3 years, coming home in 1946. After the war, Loren Thrush attended Idaho College in Caldwell, Idaho, and began a thirty-year career in banking with the Small Business Administration throughout Alaska and the Northwest as an auditor. The Thrushes lived in Seattle for over 40 years, listed in the city directory as living on 34th Ave NW in the Crown Hill neighborhood of Seattle from 1960 until their deaths.

Content Description

The album cover is embossed with "Donna and Loren." The beginning of the album (59 photographs) depicts Loren Thrush in the Army, returning from Tacloban, Leyte in the Philippines to the Army's Port of Embarkation in San Francisco, March 1946. This group includes images of the piers in San Francisco, men loading onto the landing craft tank (LCT) to board the USAHS Republic in the bay. Includes at least one image of Thrush, as well as other men, some identified. Includes several images on board the Republic , two photographs of a band welcoming the troops at the dock, photos of troops at Camp Stoneman, and departing on a train for Salt Lake City.

Three images depict individuals, including Loren Thrush, from the First National Bank of Portland at an event in LaGrande, Oregon in February 1949. Other images depict a fishing trip and trips to Seattle and Vancouver.
