Historical Note
Edward L. Eastham was president of the Willamette Transportation and Locks company. He held shares in the Walla Walla Water company, and was involved with the U. S. Electric Lighting and Power company.
The Willamette Transportation and Locks company was created in 1868 to build a canal around the Willamette Falls, in order to allow for easier and faster commercial and passenger shipping.

The collection (1885-1888) consists of letters and papers relating to stock purchases and proposals of consolidation involving the Walla Walla Water company, Willamette Transportation and Locks company, and U. S. Electric Lighting and Power company.
