State College of Washington Department of Buildings and Grounds Contracts, 1950-1966

Washington State University has had a Department of Buildings and Grounds since it's founding as the State College of Washington. Renamed as the Physical Plant in 1967, it has responsibility for a wide-ranging set of tasks concerning the buildings and grounds of the university. Among these tasks are various construction and remodeling efforts, usually of smaller scale and outside the scope of concern of the Department of Facilities Planning, the office responsible for major construction and renovation projects. In some cases, the Department of Physical Plant contracts for construction and remodeling work, rather than using the crews and facilities of the department. In those cases, the department manages the contracts.
