Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Dennis Warshal is a member of the Seattle family who owned Warshal's Sporting Goods store. He is the son of William and Edith Rubin Warshal. As a child, Warshal sang in the Junior Choir at Temple de Hirsch in Seattle. He later graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Communications. Over the years, Dennis Warshal has been an active participant in Seattle's Jewish organizations, including Jewish Family Service, Temple de Hirsch, and the Washington State Jewish Historical Society. He works as an event planner and steel sculptor; Mr. Warshal sculpted the steel award given to recipients of the Washington State Jewish Historical Society's Nizkor Award each year. Other Warshal sculptures are at the Kline Galland Home and at Temple de Hirsch.

In his oral history, Warshal discusses: his early years growing up in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood; the history of Warshal's Sporting Goods; post-WWII downtown Seattle; his activities in the Jewish community; special recognition received by Warshal from Jewish community organizations; growing up in Bellevue; and the circumstances of his uncle's death in WWII while a P.O.W.
