Biographical Note
The National Forests Committee of the Washington State Chapter of the Sierra Club works on issues that affect the National Forests in the Washington Cascades, Olympic Mountains, Columbia Highlands, and the Blue Mountains. The committee seeks to preserve and protect the ancient forests, roadless areas, watersheds, and forest habitat. Mark Lawler served as the Chair of the National Forests Committee for 30 years, until 2015.

Biographical/Historical Note: J. Michael McCloskey is an activist of the modern environmental movement, having spent his career (1961-1999) working in environmental advocacy. For 30 years, he was an executive of the Sierra Club, then became its executive director (from 1969-1985) and chairman (1985-1999). Before that, he was its conservation director and a field organizer in the northwestern United States.
Doug Scott is a wilderness historian and expert on the U.S. wilderness movement. He has been involved in the passage of most major wilderness protection laws in the last 40 years, including the Eastern Wilderness Areas Act (1975), Endangered American Wilderness Act (1978), Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (1980), and the newest – the Omnibus Public Land Management Act (2009) – which protected more than two million acres across nine states. He helped shape strategy and led campaigns at The Wilderness Society and the Sierra Club (where he served as national Conservation Director and Associate Executive Director).He also served as Policy Director of the Campaign for America’s Wilderness from 2000-2012.
Scope and Content: 2 DVDs featuring oral interviews of Mike McCloskey and Doug Scott, conducted by Joe Walicki. The McCloskey interview took place in July, 2014 in Portland, Oregon (Run time: 45 minutes 10 seconds). The Scott interview took place in July, 2016 in Beaverton, Oregon (Run time: 2 hours 1 minute ).
