Historical NoteReturn to Top

The photographs in this collection were taken by staff members in WSU’s News and Information Services, then located in the French Administration Building. The department was responsible for providing WSU stories both for the media and for in-house publications such as WSU Week, Hilltopics, and Universe.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

This collection is comprised of three boxes of Washington State University images created, dating between 1960 and 1985.

The first series of materials consist of black and white positive contact sheets, usually with accompanying negatives attached to the back.

The second series consists of color slides. The images, many of which were hand-labeled by the staff who originally created or worked with them, include (but are not limited to) sports, science research, student life, and campus scenes.

Most of the materials are dated. The contact sheets range in date from 1972 to 1985, and the slides range from 1960 to 1985.

Arrangement

Both series of materials are organized alphabetically by subject.

In the second series of the materials, found in boxes two and three, most of the slides are 1⅜ by ⅞ inches, but two folders of differently sized slides (⅝ by ½ inch and 2¾ inch square respectively) have been placed at the beginning of the series.

Acquisition Information

Three boxes of material measuring three cubic feet were received at the Washington State University Libraries’ Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) on February 5, 1999 from Al Ruddy of WSU News and Information Services. The materials were retained as accession UPC-005.

Processing Note

This collection was processed by WSU student Kaitlyn Van Vleet in January-February of 2020.

Related Materials

WSU MASC holds a number of series of photographs which document the campus and its students, taken either by Student Media and its predecessors, or by WSU’s Photo Services and its predecessors. Rather than listing them all here, we would suggest looking at the list of the MASC’s photograph collections, as well as at the unprocessed collections (accessions).
