Historical Note
The Glen Canyon: A Dam, Water, and the West photograph collection contains photographs collected for a 1999 documentary of the same name. Glen Canyon: A Dam, Water, and the West is a one-hour documentary produced by Ken Verdoia with associate producer Nancy Green for KUED, the public broadcaster of the University of Utah. The documentary depicts the history of Glen Canyon and of the idea of building a dam on the Colorado River; discusses the conflict between David Brower of the Sierra Club and Floyd Dominy, Commission of the Bureau of Reclamation in the 1950s; and depicts the construction of the dam between 1956 and 1966.
Content Description
The Glen Canyon: A Dam, Water, and the West photograph collection contains 289 8 x 10 black-and-white and color photographs documeting the building of the Glen Canyon Dam between 1956 and 1966. Most of the photographs were taken by the United States Department of the Interior and Bureau of Reclamation.
