F. DeWitt Abbott served with the United States Soil Conservation Service as a soil conservationist in Salina, Kansas.

Collection contains correspondence (1960-1970); articles (1955-1962), reports (1937-1968), and speeches by Abbott on soil conservation, erosion and the management of rangelands; miscellaneous maps of the United States (1937-1967); newspaper clippings (1962-1969); and photographs of soil conservation districts in Kansas (1930-1968).
