Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Ernst Heins (1937-2019) was a musician and ethnomusicologist who specialised in the music of Indonesia. Heins studied at Amsterdam University, Netherlands in the 1950s under Dutch ethnomusicologist Jaap Kunst and later taught at the university until his retirement in 2002. His academic publications primarily focused on aspects of Indonesian traditional culture. As an accomplished musician, Heins played gamelan instruments. After his retirement he played tympani in the Wageningen University Orchestra.
