Historical Note

The Idaho Public Employees Association (IPEA) was founded in 1959 as the Idaho State Employees Association (ISEA) to advocate for state employees on labor related issues. They changed their name to IPEA in 1974. As a nonprofit member-driven organization representing active and retired members from every department in state government in the State of Idaho, the IPEA advocated for members' rights. They took on issues of workers pay, benefits and rights, as well as the benefits and rights of retired public employees. The IPEA was dissolved in 2020.

Content Description

Materials in this collection spans the years of 1962 to 1988. It consists of the papers of Judi Lyons, President of the Paradise Valley Chapter of the Idaho Public Employees Association (IPEA) in the 1980s; secretary records; financial materials; and several binders.

Judi Lyons papers include minutes from legislative council, IPEA general council resolutions, budget, and information on the IPEA recruitment program. The Secretary's Records include meeting minutes and general council resolutions from 1962 to 1988; finally the binders contain correspondence, financial reports, memos, recruitment materials, an officers manual, and resolutions from the IPEA dating betwwen 1971-1983.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

There was no discernable original order to materials. There were no folder titles, so those listed were created. All the binders were titled "Idaho Public Employees Assocation" and then listed the years. Materials were removed from binders and placed into acid free folders, but nothing was removed or rearranged.

Acquisition Information

Materials were donated by Judi Lyons in 1986 (MA 1986-27). More materials were donated by Richard J. Beck in 1988 and 1989 (MA 1988-10 and MA 1989-11).
