Historical Note
Martin Alexander Mason (1907-1982), an expert in hydraulic engineering and erosion, graduated from George Washington University in 1931 with a B.S. in Engineering. From 1940-1951 he was chief engineer for the Engineering and Research Branch of the Beach Erosion Board for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mason was professor of engineering and dean of the engineering department at George Washington University from 1951-1968 and president of Capitol Institute of Technology from 1968-1973.
