Historical NoteReturn to Top

The kayagum, also called gayageum, is a zither-like string instrument from Korea. Traditionally, the kayagum has 12 strings, but there are variants that have as many as 21. The chinese guzheng, another form of zither, is the ancestor of this instrument. Sanjo gayageum is a genre of kayagum music that is characterized by fast tempos and improvisation.
