Biographical Note
Poet, folklorist, and short story writer Joan M. Steele graduated from the University of Washington in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She also completed courses in English and Literature at universities including the University of Virginia, American University, George Mason University, and the University of Nevada. Steele taught elementary school in Virginia until 1976. Joseph Foster, her great uncle, served in the Washington Territorial Legislature as a representative from King County.
