The collection was purchased by the WSU Friends of the Library in 1970 or 1971 from Alan E. Samuel (of Toronto) and/or the American Society of Papyrologists of the Association Internationale de Papyrologues, and officially gifted to the WSU Libraries on Oct. 29, 1971.
