Historical NoteReturn to Top
Victor Hugo Pelz (1894-1968) was educated at Northwestern University and commenced an editorial, marketing, and sales career. He had a long working association with Curtis Publishing company. His father, E. E. Pelz was wholesale distributor for Curtis in Seattle.
He became a marketing expert, taught at the University of Wisconsin, Tulane, and Stanford University. He was the first editor of Food Field Reporter.

Business correspondence contains letters from when Pelz was a boy and sold copies of the Saturday Evening Post, 1902-1905. Later correspondence is from when Pelz was an agent for Curtis Publishing in Seattle. With the letters are sales bulletins, reports on contests, "carrot" letters, and promotional literature.
In all, there are about 400 letters.
Pelz's master thesis is a study regarding methods of managing and directing the work of traveling salesmen.
