Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Ana Blanca Soto (1899-1987), also known as Tía Anica la Piriñaca, was a flamenco singer from Jérez de la Frontera, Spain. As a child, Soto sang at flamenco fiestas and studied under big names in the genre such as Frihones and Tío José de Paula. Her fame grew in 1965 after her first recording was released. She performed often in clubs and at festivals in Spain, but she rarely performed abroad. Soto's speciality was the seguiriya style of flamenco music, which is known for its tragic tone and accompanying guitar music.
Diego Carrasco (1954-) is a composer, singer, and flamenco guitar player from Spain. He began playing guitar at age 13 for flamenco singers including Ana la Piriñaca, tío Gregorio Borrico, Terremoto de Jerez, and dancers like Alejandro Vega and Antonio Gades. His first album as a singer, titled Cantes and sueños, was released in 1984.
