Biographical Note

Dr. Smith was on the faculty of the University of Utah College of Medicine 1946-1963, then to UCLA where he was also on the faculty. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the first Utah faculty membrer so elected.

Content Description

The Emil L. Smith papers (1905-1994) contain correspondence, reports, minutes, reprints, collected papers of Konrad Bloch and Franz Knoop, and pamphlets. Cartons 102-105 contain office files, correspondence, journal articles, travel itineraries, and documents pertaining to faculty affairs at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). The material in this addendum covers the time Smith was a professor of Biological Chemistry at UCLA. Box 106 contains collected journal articles and booklets on the Royal Society. There is also information on the Royal Society and the Biochemical Society. Smith was a member of both societies.
