Biographical Note

Adebisi "Bisi" Adeleke is a drummer from la-Orangun, Nigeria. He is a fourth-generation master in the lineage of Yoruba talking praise drums. A talking drum has a hour-glass shape with two membranes on each end. There are cords on the outside of the drum that affect membrane tension and adjust the pitch.

Laurel Sercombe was been the Archivist for the Ethnomusicology Program at the University of Washington starting in 1982. She co-produced a series of music recordings with Northwest Folklife, lectured for classes in Ethnomusicology, Library and Information Science, and American Indian Studies, and designed and taught a course on sound archiving. In 2013 she organized and hosted "Sounds of the World," a series of six programs for UWTV featuring film footage from the Robert Garfias Collection in the Ethnomusicology Archives.
