Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Equal Employment Office serves the University of Washington by ensuring compliance with the law and spirit of equal opportunity and affirmative action. Included in its responsibilities are issues related to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, or status as a disabled veteran or Vietnam-era veteran as persons in these groups are part of the University community as employees, students, and members of the public.

The Equal Opportunity for Minorities and Women Office was established in approximately 1973. In approximately 1977 the name was changed to the Equal Employment Office. The Affirmative Action Office was established in approximately 1976. In 1985 the two divisions merged and became known as the Equal Employment and Affirmative Action Office. The name changed to Equal Opportunity Office in 1995.
