Historical Note
Estelle Hill LaMar was a pianist, music teacher, and composer of orchestral music from the 1920s to the 1950s. She studied music at the Chicago Conservatory under the direction of Frederick Grant Gleason, S.L. Weiss, Walton Perkins, and Walter Keller. Her music was primarily performed in the city of Houston, Texas, where she lived her married life with Robert LaMar.
Content Description
About forty letters to Estelle Hill LaMar, some personal and some relating to LaMar’s attempts to make a name for herself as a composer. Also, there are photographs of C.T. Hoecke, a local Houston, Texas, actor who performed in LaMar’s Chimes of Normandy.
