Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Environmental activist and conservationist Karen Fant was born on January 20, 1949, in Altadena, California. She received her degree in geology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. In addition to her work in 1979 as one of the founders of the Washington Wilderness Coalition, which works to protect and restore wild lands and waters in Washington State through advocacy, education, and civic engagement, Fant was also an advocate for the establishment of the 1984 Washington State Wilderness Act. In addition, Fant was an avid traveler and was a board member of the Seattle-Chongqing Sister City Association. She died in July 2006.
