Biographical Note

Grace Greenwoond Isaacs was a longtime resident of Walla Walla, Washington. Her father, Henry Perry Isaacs (1822-1900), was a prominant business owner in the Pacific Northwest, including the North Pacific Mills in Walla Walla, served in the Washington legislature (1885-1886), and was instrumental in getting the Washington penitentiary established at Walla Walla. Her mother, Lucinda "Lucie" Fulton Isaacs (1841-1916), was a patron of the arts in Walla Walla, and a founding member, along with Grace and her sister Bessie Isaacs Savage (1861-1911), of the Walla Walla Women's Club, later the Walla Walla Equal Suffrage League. Edwin Eells (1841-1917) was born to Reverand Cushing and Myra Eells, missionaries and founders of Whitman College, and served for many years as Indian Agent at Tacoma. Myron Eells (1843-1907), brother of Edwin, moved to the Skokomish Reservation on the Olympic Peninsula and worked as a missionary, documenting the cultures and languages of the tribes he worked with in Washington. Nelson A. Ault, was chairman for the Department of English at Washington State University (previously the State College of Washington), circa 1950s-1960s.
