Historical Note
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) was founded in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1881. The Ellensburg branch of the AAUW is believed to have been established in May of 1936 and was an active organization on the Central Washington University campus until the late 1960s. AAUW promotes equality for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change.
Content Description
This collection of the American Association of University Women, Ellensburg, includes membership rolls, list of officers, committee groups, meeting dates and annual themes and monthly events scheduled for the each academic year. Also included are flyers of local events sponsored by the organization.
Historical Background
Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
