Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Jere L. Bacharach was a Professor of History at the University of Washington. He was born in New York in 1938 and earned his B.A. from Trinity College in 1960, his M.A. from Harvard University in 1962, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1967, at which time he joined the faculty at the University of Washington. In addition to his work as a professor in the History and International Studies departments, Bacharach also served as the director of the Middle East Center of the Jackson School of International Studies, the chair of the Department of History, the director of the Ph.D. program in Near and Middle East Studies, the director of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, and the interim chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilization. He was also involved in many professional organizations. Bacharach officially retired from the University of Washington in 2004, although he continued to teach until 2007.
