Historical Note

The Rotary Club of Bellingham was founded in 1917, with the first meeting held at the Leopold Hotel on Cornwall Street. There were initially 31 members who met under the leadership of Club President Will J. Griswold, and other officers Thomas Cole, J.B. Wahl and Henry Jukes.

Throughout its long history, the Rotary Club of Bellingham has been involved in and sponsored a variety of service projects at both the local and national levels in support of its goal of leadership and goodwill through service. These efforts have included promoting new community developments, fundraising and donating to service organizations, and supporting education and entrepreneurship through scholarships.

The Rotary Club of Bellingham exists within the boundaries of (International) District 5040, a network for global service and community development. Every year district conferences are organized, during which club members gather to discuss projects, find new inspiration for continued service, and strengthen Rotary networks and partnerships.
