Carl F. Smith researched Thomas Condon and the Condon family. Thomas Condon (1822-1907) was an Irish Congregational minister, a geologist and paleontologist, and a professor at the University of Oregon.

The scrapbooks include newspaper clippings, geology course catalogues, Condon family information, and letters from libraries and other institutions regarding Smith's research into the Condon family.
The collection also contains J. W. Condon correspondence (1953-1957), and also letters regarding the Condon family history in Newport, Oregon, and The Dalles, Oregon. There is also original correspondence between Thomas Condon and Matthew Deady (1875).
Collected printed matter includes: an 1897 Summer Education Association catalogue that contains information regarding geology courses taught by Condon at the Nye Beach auditorium; Geology Society newsletters (1955); a genealogy map about the Condon family in Ireland; and pamphlets and other publications about Condon by the First Congregational Church.
