Biographical Note

Ken Slusher (1947-2014) studied photography while he was a journalism major at Western Washington University in 1972. He worked as a writer and photographer for the Tacoma Community College Pubic Relations Department and as a photojournalist for the Tacoma Review and the Tacoma News Tribune (1971-1972). He taught photography at City Art Works and Factory of Visual Arts (1979-1981) and worked in photography labs in the area. He has documented the Seattle and Tacoma areas using photography and video. He also ran a gallery "Open Mondays" from 1978-1984. He was also an active proponent of legalizing marijuana and documented the Hempfest.

Content Description

Photographs and films of Seattle and Tacoma events and people including construction of the West Seattle Bridge, Blanchard Plaze, the Columbia Center and the redevelopment of the Foss Waterway in Tacoma. He documented festivals and events such as Hempfest, Peace movement rallies, Fremont parades and other activities. He documented Northwest artists such as Anja Kaiser, Richard Beyer, the Skagit 12 and others. His website is http://www.openmondays.com/
