Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Elton Fulmer (1864-1916) was the head of the Department of Chemistry and Dean of Faculty at Washington State College. A nationally known chemist, Fulmer was elected chairman of the American Chemical Society in 1913. He served as Washington State Chemist from 1899 until his death in 1916. During this period, he undertook extensive research in soils, sugar beet processing and consumer product analysis. He drafted the first pure food law of the state, which was later adopted by the legislature.
