Historical Note

Founded in 1972, the Montana Committee for the Humanities (MCH) is a non-profit organization and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. In the United States, it is one of fifty-six existing councils that work to bring the humanities and the public together. Along with programs and events, the organization provides grants to individuals and entities to support learning in humanities disciplines. The Montana Committee for the Humanities changed its name to Humanities Montana in 2007 and still operates across the state today.

Material in this collection was donated in multiple accessions. A few of the accessions were likely from board members and not from the MCH organization itself.

Accruals to this collection are anticipated.

Processing Note

The majority of materials are housed in their original folders. When identified, duplicate materials and materials not directly related to MCH were removed from the collection. When identified, individual donor files and mailing lists were removed. Portions of this collection remain unprocessed or minimally processed.
