Biographical Note

Enrolled at the University of Washington in 1954, and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Pharmacy. Married Selma Eskenazi.

Content Description

Tape recorded interview covering the years 1932-2001, taken on January 31, 2001; transcript, photographs, and clipping.

Mr. Hemmat describes his family and childhood in Iran. He discusses the educational opportunities for Jews in Iran before 1950. He also talks about coming to the United States in 1950, and studying at Stanford and the University of Washington. He describes some of his professional work as a chemist and pharmacist, as well as some of his experiences within the Seattle Iranian Jewish community.
