Historical Note

The Ad Hoc Accreditation Committee was active from the late 1960s into 1970, at the time of the decennial accreditation review of Washington State University by the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools. Much of the preparation involved self-study reports by units of the University. Professor Charles E. Blackburn of the English Department served as coordinator of the University's participation in this effort.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

The records of the Ad Hoc Accreditation Committee range from 1957 to 1975, with the bulk dating from 1969 to 1970, the time of its main activity. This material is divided into three series and arranged in two ways. The first series contains administrative material: the Self Study Report in toto, its distribution and the manual for its preparation, correspondence, and facilities. This series is alphabetical as is the third and last series, which includes materials retained from the 1960 accreditation. The second and main series is keyed to the Self-Study Report and, with a few insertions, follows its outline and topical breakdown. Predominantly correspondence and reports, these materials also contain booklets, brochures, statistics, and financial statements.

Acquisition Information

The records of the Ad Hoc Accreditation Committee were transferred to the University Archives, Washington State University prior to 1975 (WSU 48).

Processing Note

The records were reprocessed in December, 1983 by Paul Green.
