Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Dr. Richard M. Steiner (1901-1975) was born in Sandusky, Ohio. He was educated at Grinnell College, the University of Michigan, and the Chicago Theological Seminary. He worked as a newspaper reporter in Chicago and Cleveland, taught at Washington State University in Pullman and at Bradley College in Peoria, Illinois, and served as acting professor of applied Christianity at Grinnell from 1933 to 1934. He came to Portland, Oregon, in 1934 to serve as the pastor of the First Unitarian Church, retiring in 1966. During his retirement, he served in ministries in Westport, Connecticut, and in Philadelphia. He also worked as a counselor and contributed to many Christian publications. He committed suicide in 1975.
