This collection consists of a variety of materials relating to Lacey V. Murrow's life and career, including correspondence during the World War II military services of Lacey Murrow and his wife, Marge Murrow, as well as printed memorabilia, an undated typescript reminiscence titled "I Remember Papa," and a scrapbook of photocopied materials.
The letters associated with Lacey V. Murrow date from 1944 to 1945, and document his time spent in the China and India-Burma theaters as Chief of Transportation, U.S.AF, and later as Deputy Director General of the War Transportation Board. Military correspondence includes letters addressed to personnel in the Army Service Forces, the Indo-China Division Air Transport Command, the War Transportation Board, and the United States Forces China Theater Headquarters. The majority of the correspondence is about problems with specific roads significant in the war, as well as more casual exchanges with close acquaintances.
Marge Murrow's letters document periods between October 1943 and February 1952 during her service in the Women's Army Corps. They are addressed to a number of recipients, including her friends, family, Lacey Murrow, Saeeda, and an unidentified individual. The correspondence describes Marge's early experiences in the WAC, being sworn in and camp life, as well as her observations during her time spent in Italy and Cairo, Egypt. Included with her materials is a document titled "I Remember Papa," that presents accounts from early childhood.
Printed memorabilia included in the collection is comprised of two diplomas earned by Lacey Murrow at the State College of Washington, a Bachelor of Science in Military Science and Tactics in 1926 and a degree in Civil Engineering in 1935. There are two passports belonging to Murrow, one issued Special by the U.S. Department of State in January 1941, and the other a standard U.S. passport used by Murrow circa 1956 to 1958. Three booklets, two published by the TCI (Transportation Consultants, Inc.), discuss Murrow's career success and an award he received from the General Motors Better Highways Award Contest.
The biographical scrapbook, titled "Aviation Pioneer," contains photocopies of articles and newspaper clippings relating to Lacey Murrow's life. Throughout the book are handwritten notes providing further details about events and people significant to him.
