Biographical Note

Vernon L. Miller was born in Prosser, Washington on November 2, 1910. He received both his B.S. and M.S. from Washington State University in 1933 and 1944 respectively. From 1938 until his retirement in 1976 Miller was an Agricultural Chemist at Western Washington Experiment Station at Puyallup, now the Western Washington Research and Extension Center (WWREC). Mr. Miller co-authored numerous abstracts, articles and presentations including: " Investigations on the Effect of Atmospheric Fluorine Pollution on Washington Agriculture" (1950), " Mercury Retention: A Trait of Chickens" (1959), " Basal Rot in the U.S.A. and its Control" (1961) and " Antibacterial Activity of Compounds with Both Mercury and Tin in Organic Combination" (1966).

Administrative Information

Arrangement

The papers are arranged in two series: General File; and Experiments and Related Data. The General File is arranged alphabetically by subject and includes: administrative papers, annual progress reports on projects, correspondence grouped by person, and other files concerning the operation of the station as a whole. The material within this series convers the period from 1938-1975. Experiments and Related Data are divided into four sections and grouped by project: Heavy Metal Retention and Detoxication 1958-1970, Synthesis of Compounds Containing Carbon-Mercury and Carbon-Tin Bonds 1959-1969, Experiments with Phenyl Mercuric Acetate for Control of Basal Rot in Narcissus 1948-1972, and Effects of Atmospheric Fluorine on Agriculture in Washington 1945-1975. All folders contain data, correspondence and reports and are arranged alphabetically by subject.

The papers of Vernon L. Miller were received by the Washington State University Library in November 1977 (UA 77-34) as part of the records of the Western Washington Research and Extension Center (WWREC) in Puyallup, Washington.
