Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Tuscumbia Mining Company was incorporated August 14, 1911 by E.C. Meiklejohn, G.W. Dougherty, D.L. McGrath, and H.C. Osborn of Wallace, D.J. Whaley of Stevensville, Montana, and John Wolfe of Tekoa, Washington. The authorized capital was $750,000.00 divided into 1,500,000 shares with a par value of 50 cents each. The property consisted of 1 patented and 6 unpatented claims in the Beaver District of Wallace. Stock assessments were levied to pay for annual labor. The company failed to file annual reports with the Inspector of Mines after 1925. In 1931 the Consolidated Mining Company, D.A. Callas, president, was formed to take over the properties of the Tuscumbia and Dire Mines. In 1940 the Tuscumbia property was sold to Earl B. Bowen and became part of a larger mining company. In 1942 Tuscumbia became part of the Portland Mining Company, which merged with Monitor Mining Company in 1943.

Since there are so few items in this records group no series designation was made. However, the records are arranged in the same sequence as those in other mining groups.
The records of the Tuscumbia Mining Company are part of the records of Day Mines, Inc., donated to the University of Idaho by Henry Day in 1984 and 1985.
Initial processing of this manuscript group was done by Judith Nielsen in October 1987 and June 1988. Processing was completed by Michael Tarabulski in February 1992.
Related materials can be found in the records of the Monitor Mining Company and the papers of John H. Wourms.
