Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Tuscumbia Mining Company was incorporated August 14, 1911 by E.C. Meiklejohn, G.W. Dougherty, D.L. McGrath, and H.C. Osborn of Wallace, D.J. Whaley of Stevensville, Montana, and John Wolfe of Tekoa, Washington. The authorized capital was $750,000.00 divided into 1,500,000 shares with a par value of 50 cents each. The property consisted of 1 patented and 6 unpatented claims in the Beaver District of Wallace. Stock assessments were levied to pay for annual labor. The company failed to file annual reports with the Inspector of Mines after 1925. In 1931 the Consolidated Mining Company, D.A. Callas, president, was formed to take over the properties of the Tuscumbia and Dire Mines. In 1940 the Tuscumbia property was sold to Earl B. Bowen and became part of a larger mining company. In 1942 Tuscumbia became part of the Portland Mining Company, which merged with Monitor Mining Company in 1943.
