A banking business has operated at Colton and Johnson, Washington since the 1890's under different names. All were related in ownership or management in some measure. These nine entities were:

The Colton State Bank and the Farmers State Bank of Johnson were consolidated to form the Security State Bank in 1925. Subsequently it became the Colton Branch of the Old National Bank.

Arrangement

The records are arranged according to corporate entity, although they have been divided into two series which segregate the once restricted materials from the unrestricted. Though the restrictions on this material expired January 1st, 1995, the material has not been since reorganized.

Acquisition Information

The records of the Security State Bank of Colton, Washington and its predecessors and successors at Colton and adjacent Johnson were received by the Washington State University Library in three installments. The first was deposited by W. O. Druffel of Colton in 1964; the second was deposited by Frank Johnson of Pullman in 1969; and the third was donated by U.S. Bank in 1992 (MS.1992.62).
