Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Phursang Kelak Lama is the ritual music director (dbu mdzad) དབུ་མཛད། of Karma Raj Mahavihar, a Kagyu monastery located at Swayambhunath, Kathmandu, Nepal. Phursang Lama grew up in Tibet, entering Dilyak monastery in Nangchen, in the Kham region of Tibet. He received the traditional training in ritual arts. He left Tibet in 1959 with other senior lamas from his monastery, settling in the monastery in Kathmandu. Phursang Lama taught Tibetan ritual music for two years in the Ethnomusicology Department of the University of Washington.

1) Concert - Music of Tibet (recorded 4/18/95): Mahakala ritual (with Rol mo instrumental interludes); Zla ba yar tshes, "Days of the waxing moon"; music of the Rnying ma pa traditon.
2) Reception music and call to assembly (rooftop music)(recorded 4/12/95).
Note: evening concert of 4/12/95 began with rooftop performance, then continued indoors; videotape begins with repeat of indoor concert at noon 4/18/95 and continues with rooftop portion of 4/12 performance.
