Historical Note

Animal Science has been a part of the curriculum of Washington State University from the institution's opening in 1892; however, it remained part of the Department of Agriculture until 1918 when a new and separate Department of Animal Husbandry was created. In 1958 the name was changed to the Department of Animal Science.

Part of the records concern Hilltop Stables, Pullman, Washington, which was acquired by the University in four different holdings between 1946 and 1948. The Washington Horse Racing Commission was the principal funding source from 1946 to 1963.
