This collection consists of a diary covering the year 1914 written by Norman P. Lawson, a teacher and farm hand in rural eastern Washington. It details his attempts to organize the school and the difficulties he encountered teaching in Schrag, Washington. He taught many immigrant children of all ages, including from Volga German and Irish families. The diary also details his interactions with local agricultural and other regional bureaucracies. During the summer, he lived and worked in the farming communities of Othello and Corfu as a farm and ranch hand. Information from the seller is also included with the collection.
