Historical Note

Fern Flagler was born 13 January 1917 in Elko, Nevada, the daughter of Robert H. Flagler and Elizabeth Fisher Flagler. In 1936 she married Frank E. Larson Jr., and had two children, Frankie and Brent. The couple divorced sometime in the 1940s. Fern was married again in 1949 to University of Utah professor Joseph S. Peery and had two children, Teri and Tana. They divorced in 1991.

Content Description

The Fern Flagler Peery papers (1840-2008) contain correspondence, diaries, vital records, genealogy, news clippings and scrapbooks. The bulk of correspondence is regarding Fern F. Peery's children, and second husband Joe. The collection houses many books and newspaper clippings regarding Henry Morrison Flagler, the Father of Miami, a relative of Fern F. Peery. Also of note are two tubes containing numerous brass rubbings made by Fern. Where possible, original order of the creator has been maintained.

      Boxes 9 and 10 contain brass rubbings done by Fern Flagler Peery, most likely during her stay in Cambridge in 1966. Most are done in black wax on white paper, with a few done in blue and copper. Of note, there are several rubbings of the Lace Lady, as well as various religious figures.

      Box 11 contains two scrapbooks of new clippings created by Tera Hunter, Fern's granddaughter. Box 12 contains a scrapbook of the Neighborhood Garden Club.
