Historical Note

A non-profit organization sponsored by civic, service, industrial, religious, patriotic and educational groups in the Northwest and University representatives. Incorporated in 1948, the Foundation's purpose is to promote international understanding. It stimulates and supports intercultural activities and extends hospitality to students from abroad.

The Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) is a student organization established at the University of Washington in 1956. Its purpose is to promote international understanding and world peace by the integration of students from abroad into community homes and activities, and by stimulating and supporting inter-cultural activities and projects among students from this country and abroad.

  • Accession No. 4422-001: Foundation for International Understanding Through Students records, 1948-1989

    8.33 cubic feet (9 boxes)

    Scope and Content: Correspondence, photographs, guest books, minutes, scrapbooks, film, reports, handbooks, committee lists, plaques, poster, audio tapes.

    Restrictions on Access: Open to all users.

    Restrictions on Use: Creator's literary rights transferred to the University of Washington Libraries.

    Acquisition Info: Donated by Kirby Brown and Rob Frishholz., 3/23/1993.

  • Accession No. 4422-002: Foundation for International Understanding Through Students records, 1950-1996

    2.84 cubic feet (4 boxes)

    Scope and Content: Correspondence, agenda, minutes, financial records, Board of Trustees and membership lists, program records, subject series, newsletters, directories, publications, photographs, handbooks, ephemera. The records document organizational history and programs, particularly student cultural exchange programs with Japan.

    Restrictions on Access: Open to all users, but access to portions of the papers restricted. Contact repository for details.

    Restrictions on Use: Literary rights of representatives of the records-creating organization transferred to the University of Washington Libraries.
