Summary
The Sigrid Peterson papers (1970-1988) contain articles, handouts, pamphlets, church materials, programs, data, research materials, curriculum vitae, day planners, sheet music, and news clippings. The majority of the collection deals with research on auto-immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), as well as community reaction to it. This is mainly focused on the Jewish community. Also included is research on morality and suicide rates in Utah. Peterson is a psychologist and author who founded Bridges Interfaith Center for Counseling and Psychological Services in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Biographical Note

Peterson (b.1940) earned her MA and Ph.D. from the University of Utah in 1981 in counseling/clinical psychology, and is a licensed psychologist. In 1981 she founded Bridges Interfaith Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, and was the director for five years. From 1995 to 1996, she studied in Israel on a Interuniversity Fellowship in Jewish Studies. Then in 1997, Peterson won the Schaff Memorial Prize, an award given to the best graduate student essay demonstrating creative thinking on a subject related to Judaic Religious Thought. Peterson has also written founding grants for the Utah AIDS Foundation and the People With AIDS Coalition. She has also served the State of Utah as a statistician-policy analyst.
