Biographical Note

Arthur Blaine Dean, University of Washington class of 1909, was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was born in 1885 in South Dakota. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Alice Sturgiss McCullough on July 14, 1914; their daughter Virginia was born in 1919. He died on April 22, 1951.

Content Description

The photographs depict Arthur Dean's life during 1906-1933. Images include Sigma Alpha Epsilon (ΣΑΕ) fraternity-related events during his time as an undergraduate at the University of Washington, domestic and international nature excursions, historic and athletic events, and portraits of his friends and pets. While some of the photographs may have been taken by Dean himself, many of the images have been taken by professionals—as indicated by the signatures and markings on the photographs; credits include photographer/printer Lloyd G. Linkletter, photographer William E. Hudson, the Edson Photo Company, and the Brubaker Aerial Surveys Company of Portland, Oregon.
