Biographical Note

Bernard Gordon Ricketts was born in Indian Valley near Cambridge, Idaho, in 1914. After growing up in Pullman, Washington, he studied at Washington State University where he specialized in metallurgical engineering. He was granted a B.S. in 1937 and an M.S. in 1938. Mr. Ricketts received a Ph.D. in 1958 from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign campus) where he was engaged in teaching and metals research until his retirement in 1975. Professor Ricketts died in 1976.

Content Description

The Bernard Ricketts collection reflects a career of metals research and engineering instruction. Series one contains, in addition to his master's thesis "Recrystallization of Cold Worked Polycrystalline Magnesium" and a history of the School of Mines of his alma mater, Washington State University, some administrative records concerning his appointment at Illinois and other professional activities. Student records and theses comprise series two. Series three consists of engineering research reports published by the University of Illinois which contain the results of Professor Ricketts' research. Series four is made up of class experiment records and instructional materials employed by Professor Ricketts.

The papers of Bernard G. Ricketts were donated to the Washington State University Libraries by his wife, Amy Ricketts, in October 1977 (77-49).
