Biographical Note

Samuel Franklin Emmons (1841-1911) and Francis Baker Laney (1875-1938) were American geologists, who graduated from Harvard University and from Yale University, respectively.

This collection consists of field notebooks kept by S.F. Emmons, F.B. Laney, and G.W. Tower, containing notes on mines in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Montana, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, and South Dakota, as well as a few sketches and small maps.
