Administrative Information

Arrangement

The material was, for the most part, in labeled folders or three-ring notebooks. All headings were retained during processing. The two accessions which were combined to form this group form the two series divisions.

The Potlatch mill modernization records maintained by the Lewiston Office of Potlatch Forests, Inc. include correspondence, blueprints, cost estimates, and photographs relating to the various remodellings at Potlatch. Major renovations took place in 1961, 1973-1974, and 1978. Some of the material is an overall study of the plans, other folders deal with specific areas or pieces of equipment. There are two oversize volumes of equipment drawings.

The second series contains ten bound volumes entitled Pres-to-Log machine drawings and material specifications, and contains greatly reduced drawings of various parts of the machinery. The final series contains memos and correspondence regarding security and fire protection during World War II.

Acquisition Information

The Potlatch mill modernization papers were donated to the University of Idaho Library by the Potlatch Corporation in May 1986; James McAdoo donated the Pres-to-Log machine drawings in August 1986. These two accessions were combined and processed by Judith Nielsen in May 1990.

More records were donated in 2023 (MA 2023-41) by Idaho Forest Group featuring materials about security and fire protection during World War II.
