Historical NoteReturn to Top

KUGR began operation in 1962 as a carrier current station, broadcasting to dormitories at Washington State University. It was operated by students, both as employees and as volunteers. Programming was oriented to student needs, and consisted chiefly of "study music." This experience reflected that of similar stations at other universities.

KUGR is associated with the University's Radio and Television Services and with the School of Communications. It has generally been located in the Murrow Center.

As of 2001, KUGR is a small cable FM station. Its mission is similar to that it had at its beginning in 1962, although its content is is now more "formatted," and consists chiefly of one form of music.

Other student radio stations have existed at the university. These generally have been associated with the Associated Students and the Compton Union Building.
