Content DescriptionReturn to Top
This collection contains one personal scrapbook of a female student, Violet Denny, who attended Oregon Normal School. The scrapbook is 9.25 x 11.50 inches with the caption "School Events, ONS, 20-21" on the cover. The scrapbook contains numerous topics, including photographs and postcards of campus building interiors and exteriors (Campbell Hall, Todd Hall Dormitory, Maple Hall, Monmouth Training School, the Grove), faculty member J.B.V. Butler, female dormitory students, art weavings and exhibit, Normal School orchestra, students with diplomas, and social events. Also included are athletic team photographs of women’s basketball (1918, 1921, 1922, juniors and seniors), men’s basketball (1923 and undated), men’s baseball (undated), and photographs of the senior class play, class of 1919 and 1921, and a Fourth of July pageant. A large number of photographs in the scrapbook are of the May Day celebrations, which was a large celebration on campus. Approximately 22 of the photographs are of May Day and include women dancing with garland, women dancing around a May pole outside Maple Hall, women and children dressed up for the May Day pageants, and one photograph that features students in Japanese garb during the May Day event.
