- Virgil Brodrick, born 1833, was a farmer in Andover, New Jersey. After the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina, he enlisted in the Union Army. The Virgil Brodrick Civil War Letters, which date from February 3, 1861 through January 2, 1878, consist of photocopies and transcripts of letters written by Virgil Brodrick regarding his experiences fighting for the Union Army in the United States Civil War.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Virgil Brodrick, born 1833, was a farmer in Andover, New Jersey. After the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina, he enlisted in the Union Army. He worked his way up to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, eventually leading a charge in the June 9, 1863 Battle of Brandy Station, Virginia, where he was unhorsed and killed.
