Historical NoteReturn to Top
Malheur Field Station was created in 1971 when a group of field biologists led by David Malcolm of Pacific University to create a facility for naturalist education and research. Malheur Field Station is located in the high desert country, 32 miles south of Burns, Oregon, on the western edge of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in the northern Great Basin region. The consortium of universities, made up of 26 universities in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, was formed to help guide the field station’s program and provide for its maintenance. From 1971-1989, Pacific University was the leading university in this consortium. The collection was compiled by Dr. William T. Jordan, a chemistry professor at Pacific University and the representative of the university to the field station.
